WHAT IS BROADBAND???

broadband, broadband, broadband; it's a term we hear quite often, but do we know what it is???

That's where I come in, keep reading and you will be a braod band wizz,or somethinmg like that :P

What is broadband?

Broadband is just a variety of telecommunication signals over differnt electromagnetic frequencies. in other words it's a network with large capacity thay can carry different services, such as, data, audio and video.

What units are used to measure bandwith?

The unit used to measure band width is bits per scond.

How much faster is broadband then dial up?

Broadband is 200 Kbs, where as dial up is typically around 58KBs, in speed.

What are the speeds that broadband operates at compared to dial up?

The broadband connection can transfer more amounts of information therefore downloading the youtube video at a faster speed. Dial  up cannot transfer the same amount of information that broadband can, as it doesn't have a wide range of frequencies that can be transmitted through the internet. Another advantage of broadband internet is that you can still speak on the phone while on the internet. When you are connected to a dial up connection, if you wish to speak on the phone while connected to it, it will not work.
What are some of the advantages of using a broadband connection to download something like a video compared to dial up?

By using broadband todownload a video and stuff, it will definatly download the videos faster, and that means we won't have to wait too much watch the video, it also means that we'll be able to watch the video with outh interupttions.

Create an image in paint that illustrates how a high bandwidth connection can move more data compared to a dial up connection at a given time.

(Ps. sir i did make this image, but i copied the one online, with small differences:)

A] How has the type of access connection to the internet changed in recent years?

Internet is something we all go to these days for anythy question we hold. Only in recent history were we astonished to be able to communicated to others via internet, now the internet has become a place where nearly everyone has some sort of social networking site. The speed of internet has dramaticaly improved, as i still remeber the time we had dial up internet and it took for ever to load anything. As well as the amount of data we are able to download or upload has also increased, as before using 1 or 2 GB seemed like heaps but now we are using around at the least 20GB per family, being able to research, watch films, communicated and even read online.
This is also shown as users of slow internets such as dial up has decreases with the mobile and wireless internet users have increased. As shown on this graph...

Over the years we still have the same question, Is there really anything internet can't do???

B] Can you identify a trend in advertised download speeds?

Sorry Sir, I wasn't sure of how to answer this question...
But i'm assuming the increase in subscribers to higer internet download and the decrese in thouse who use download limited between 256kbps to 1.5Mbps, is the supposed treand that has been shown in advertised download speeds over the passed few years. Latly as well, ther advertisment on lower download limits are barely present, whilst the subscriptions of download up to 500GB is shown nearly every where by the top internet brands, such as TPG and DODO.

1. What is the speed of the connection from your computer to the Sydney location on the map?
The speed of download, on my home computer is approximatly 9.46Mbps to a sydney location on the map
2.  What is the speed of the connection from your computer to the U.S location on the map?

The speed of download, on my home computer is approximatly 1.05Mbps to La, In the United states.

3. Why did the data transfer rates vary? [Hint: think of what happens when an eight lane highway moves into a two lane highway?]
I believe that I was able to download faster in Sydney as like an 8 lane highway there were many different routes for my data to travel on, thereby getting to me quicker. However when i search for information internationaly, Like going from 8lanes to 2 lanes, there was a lot more of internationaly traffic, with data, and only a bit of ways for that data to reach me, so the information takes longer to download.
I hope these few questions I answered helps, you all to gain a greater understanding on bread band and Internet useage. Keep reading for more great knowledge :)
